Mavalli Tiffin Rooms (Lalbagh Branch)
Basavanagudi's neighbourhood South Indian — where the original MTR tradition extends to a second home (Savoury)
A2B (Adyar Ananda Bhavan) Group
Founder · Est. 1990 · Basavanagudi, Bangalore
Adyar Ananda Bhavan — universally known as A2B — was founded in 1969 in Chennai's Adyar neighbourhood and has since grown into one of India's largest South Indian vegetarian restaurant chains. The Bangalore presence, anchored by the Basavanagudi branch among others, brought the Chennai tradition of pure-vegetarian South Indian tiffin to a city that already had its own strong tiffin culture.
The A2B model combines three revenue streams in a single location: the restaurant serving dosa, idli, and meals; the sweet shop selling traditional South Indian sweets and savouries; and the takeaway counter for festival and celebration orders. This triple-revenue format has enabled A2B to operate at a scale that most standalone restaurants cannot match.
The Basavanagudi branch places A2B in the heart of Bangalore's traditional South Indian neighbourhood — near Vidyarthi Bhavan, CTR, and the cluster of heritage tiffin houses. In this context, A2B operates as the contemporary chain alternative: air-conditioned, predictable, and accessible. It does not replace the heritage establishments; it complements them.

“Chennai's tiffin tradition and Bangalore's tiffin tradition are different expressions of the same love. We serve both.”
What Defines Mavalli Tiffin Rooms (Lalbagh Branch)
The Experience
The A2B experience is clean, air-conditioned, and efficient. The sweet counter at the entrance is the visual introduction. The restaurant beyond serves tiffin with professional service. The crowd is families and the neighbourhood's daily breakfast and lunch clientele.
