Barton Centre's rooftop panorama — where Bangalore dines with the skyline

Ebony has been operating from the 13th floor of Barton Centre on MG Road since 1989, offering a dining experience that combines a multi-cuisine menu with what is arguably Bangalore's most significant restaurant view. The rooftop position provides a panoramic vista across the city — the Ulsoor Lake, the distant Nandi Hills, and the ever-changing Bangalore skyline.

The restaurant was established by the Kamat family — one of India's most significant hospitality dynasties — as a fine-dining alternative to the hotel restaurants that dominated Bangalore's upper end in the late 1980s. Ebony proved that independent restaurants, positioned correctly, could attract the same clientele as five-star hotel dining rooms.

Over thirty-five years, the view from Ebony has changed dramatically — the Bangalore skyline has grown denser, taller, and more illuminated — but the experience of dining above the city has remained the restaurant's primary attraction. The sunset dinner, in particular, transforms the meal into a visual event.

We are on the 13th floor because the food tastes better when you can see the whole city. That is not metaphor — it is hospitality.

What Defines Ebony

Wood-Fired PizzaThe Italian preparation made possible by the rooftop's own wood-fired oven. The view is the ambiance; the pizza is the meal.
Grilled FishCoastal Karnataka fish preparation adapted for the fine-dining format.
Butter ChickenThe North Indian preparation that anchors the menu's Mughlai section.
Caesar SaladThe Continental standard, prepared tableside. The starter most frequently ordered by the business lunch crowd.
Chocolate FondantThe dessert that concludes the meal while the city lights provide the backdrop.

The Experience

The elevator to the 13th floor opens onto a space that Bangalore cannot replicate at ground level: a 360-degree view that makes the city legible. The interior is well-maintained, the terrace is the primary seating, and the sunset transforms the meal. The service is formal and attentive.
