Trident Nariman Point

Marine Drive's accessible luxury — the Oberoi Group's address for the business traveller

T

The Oberoi Group

Founder · Est. 1973 (as Oberoi Towers, rebranded Trident) · Nariman Point, Marine Drive, Mumbai

The Trident at Nariman Point — originally opened as the Oberoi Towers in 1973 — stands adjacent to The Oberoi Mumbai on Marine Drive. The hotel was repositioned as part of the Trident brand, offering the Oberoi Group's operational standards at a positioning that is more accessible than the flagship Oberoi property. The adjacency of the two properties on Marine Drive creates a combined Oberoi Group presence that dominates the southern end of the Queen's Necklace.

The hotel was fully renovated in the 2000s, creating a contemporary business hotel that serves Mumbai's corporate travellers, event organisers, and the city's social calendar. The rooftop pool — one of the few hotel pools in South Mumbai — offers views across the Arabian Sea and the Marine Drive skyline.

The dining programme includes Frangipani (all-day), Maya (contemporary Indian), and Botticino (Italian) — each operated with the Oberoi Group's service discipline applied to a property that caters to volume corporate business alongside individual luxury stays.

The Experience

The Trident operates at a slightly higher energy than The Oberoi next door — more corporate bustle, more event energy, more of the momentum that comes from serving a larger guest volume. The service is Oberoi-standard. The views are identical. The pool is a distinction that the neighbouring Oberoi does not offer.

Editorial Notes

  • The Trident-Oberoi adjacency on Marine Drive is a unique dual-property positioning in Indian hospitality.
  • The Oberoi Towers origin (1973) makes this one of Mumbai's older luxury hotel addresses.
  • The Trident brand positioning — below Oberoi, above mainstream — is a yield-management case study.
  • Recommended for hospitality students studying brand portfolio management and dual-property operations.
